Symmetrix VMAX is EMC’s current enterprise storage platform. This Symmetrix product line is the industry’s largest and highest revenue storage array, is the market and technology leader in storage, generating significant part of EMCs revenues both directly and indirectly.

VMAX is a multi-blade architecture that scales to several petabytes of storage in a single, highly available and robust array. We are currently initiating work on the next generation of Symmetrix platforms. We expect future platforms to support a large number of cores, very large memories (up to 1 TB per blade), along with multiple Infiniband fabrics providing very high-bandwidth and highly available connectivity between the blades. We also have hypervisor and virtualization technologies which are maturing and can provide unique new capabilities to VMAX.

This provides an opportunity to create some unique, game-changing opportunities for Symmetrix. We are setting up a new team to go after this opportunity and focus on VaaP (VMAX as a platform) development. The project will incorporate other operating environments (ESX, Linux, etc.) and applications (NAS, Databases, etc.) into the Symmetrix and create a vitualized, unified compute and storage platform. This would require the team to start contributing to new feature development from start. We are looking for people who are capable of learning fast and working with minimal supervision and direction to work on these future activities. This is team would be mainly staffed (including technical leadership) in Bangalore, with a small presence in Hopkinton.

Manager / Sr Manager SW Engineering

Manage a team responsible for developing new OS virtualization features within the Symmetrix (EMC’s enterprise storage platform) software organization.

The team’s responsibilities will include embedding ESX, Linux, and EMC NAS products into the Symmetrix platform, and working with partners to inload third party applications


Experience in operating systems, storage, and/or database environments is a key requirement

The candidate should have managed midsize (10-20 engineers) software development teams working concurrently on multiple projects

Strong people management and team-building skills

Experienced in working with multiple internal and external partners and manage partner relationships and deliverables

Storage Virtualization/NAS













Consulting SW Engineer & Sr SW Engineer

Responsible for developing new OS virtualization features within the Symmetrix (EMC’s enterprise storage platform) software organization

Duties will include embedding ESX, Linux, and EMC NAS products into the Symmetrix platform

Identifying and defining hardware/software requirements for running embedded applications and operating systems within the Symmetrix, understanding the performance, support, availability, and manageability issues and developing solutions to address them

Strong operating systems background and experience in design and adaptation of large systems-level components

Experience with Intel architectures, ESX and virtualization technologies, and/or NAS systems are key

Principal SW Engineer & Sr SW Engineer

Responsible for design and development of embedded management software for the Symmetrix storage array

Duties will include refactoring of existing management components into a client-server architecture, plus developing new modules for embedded management

Experience in developing multi-threaded software that is portable across a range of operating systems and platforms

Strong in C and excellent debugging skills

Systems Integration/Performance







Senior SW Engineer & SW Engineer

Responsible for systems integration, functional verification, white-box testing , and performance benchmarking and analysis of enterprise-class storage systems and storage-centric applications.

The candidate will work with a diverse set of applications on a variety of operating systems and configurations, develop and execute test plans, and analyze functional and performance problems.

Exp in writing detailed documentation including test plans and functional specifications, as well as familiarity with test automation

Debugging and failure analysis are a must

Working knowledge of Windows and Linux, as well as experience with software IDEs, debugging tools

Consulting Software Engineer

Responsible for integration of major database and data warehouse applications inside the Symmetrix storage array.

Analyze application architectures and performance profiles, and explore ways to integrate with new storage interfaces to accelerate the application performance and integrate them with the storage subsystem
Strong understanding of and experience with storage technologies

Experience in Linux, Windows, and VMware and an understanding of system configuration and performance analysis are key skills

Hands-on database skills and real world experience with schema design, database optimization, and distributed databases
